Camping
======================
A couple of weekends ago two of my childhood friends, Erwin and Tito, and I
decided to go camping. We usually go to Shenandoah’s in
Virginia because of how tranquil and beautiful it is. Typically,
during the summer most of the camping sites are reserved, but
there is one campground which is typically vacant and allowed
on a first-come first-served basis.

We decided to try our luck.

My friends decided to meet at my house and
we would all go in one car to make it more fun. From where we all live,
it is about a 2-hour drive to the camp site. We started packing up
the car with everything we would need for the night and started
to head out around 2:30 pm, which was a little late.

About 20 minutes into the trip, I got a call from my wife.
I had forgotten to give her the keys to the car and she
needed to head out. I felt bad, but my wife said she could
just take the other car.

This worked great!

Then a few minutes later my wife calls again. “Ramin, there is
a slight problem. The keys for the other car are in the trunk from
when we were moving things out.”

My wife had an engagement to be at so I asked my friends to
make a U-turn so we could drop off the keys.

After we dropped off the keys, the guys and I were back on the road. We
had a good time catching up over a late lunch, but realized it was 5 pm now
and we needed to get back on the road.

We finally saw a sign that said “Shenandoah National Park.”

Yes! Finally, we are here.

As we got closer we saw a sign stating “Mathews Camp Ground: Vacant.”

Things were on the up and up.

We paid the fee and got inside the park and about 10 miles later we were at the campground.
We pulled up to the reservation booth only to be acquainted with another sign:

“Campground Full.”

We were disappointed to say the least.

We decided to go to one of the overlooks and we started to think of another plan.

Erwin decided to call another camp ground. To our surprise, there were many
spots still open. The only problem was it was 2 hours up North back to where
we started from.

We decided to spend some more time at the overlook and enjoy the beauty before
heading back on the road. Two hours passed and it was dark by the time we reach
the other campground.

We joked about our circular road trip, but we were relieved to finally have gotten a campsite.

As we were unloading the car, we started putting the tent together except the main beams
are no where to be found. These beams are necessary for the tent to stay up.

Again, we were faced with another disappointment.

In one day, we experienced things that we had not planned for, yet we accommodated
and worked around surprises.

Life is surely like that. You set up for a project, a new job, new outlook, but things
will come your way whether you are ready or not. If you decide you want to just be in a
state of pity, then the rest of your day will be like that too. But if you decide you will
come up with another plan, even if it is last minute, you realize are making the most
with what you have. Even if it isn’t perfect, you are progressing.

The guys and I decided we were going to still enjoy ourselves and we ended up making
make-shift beams with a lawn chair and excess unused grill to hold up the tent.
Even though it was pretty comical/strange to us and the other campers of our tent,
we still enjoyed ourselves and worked with what came our way.
