If God is actually there, then?
======================
We often hear this. In fact, we, ourselves, may have said this:
If God is actually there, then why is _____ happening?
As I was driving to work one morning, I was listening to
Sheikh Hamza Yusuf’s lectures on the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),
and this question just popped into my head. God was sending
me a message because along with the question came an
Inner Peace Be Upon You moment.
What we often perceive as [bad] things happening, and yes there
are plenty of things that are really devastating and [bad], are
really tests.
You see for many believers, including those of my own faith of Islam,
this wordly life (this dunya as it is in Arabic) is really a test. Tests
are not meant to be easy.
Tests come in all shapes and form: they are difficult, they can come
as a surprise when we aren’t prepared, they can be long, short, they
can come at us when we are least wanting or expecting one.
The beauty of these life tests is God will only give us the test that
we can handle and stand. We may not think we are ready during
the test, but then again, are tests such that they’d be so easy we’d
feel like we were ready?
We can obviously prepare for these tests as best as we can, and
with each test we get from God, our objective should be to
get better, be better, and do better the next time the test is given again.
These tests from God will not always be easy, but then again, this life
was meant to try us for our next life. We just can’t forget that with
every difficult test and hardship in this life there is relief.
So much that in the qur’an it is repeated twice in the same Surah:
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. (Quran: 94:5-6).
