# 0642 Peace and Blessings Every Day

Baby doesn’t fall far from the parent
======================

Our son Zayan loves to fight his sleep. I mean
he truly loves to fight it to the point that he
starts to cry because he is tired. He is 8
months old and should be able to sleep fine
when he is tired.

One night as he was fighting his sleep and
struggling, I looked toward Asia and asked her,
“Why does he do this? He is tired. We know
he is tired. He knows he is tired.” Then I look
toward Zayan, “Baby, go to sleep.”

Asia smiles and looks at me and asks, “Why
don’t you ask yourself that question?”
I fight my sleep. I know I am tired, but I will fight it.
I was traveling to Colorado Springs for work and that
night I arrived it was 2 AM and I was exhausted. But
you know what I did? I fought my sleep even though
I had to be up at 7 AM.

Zayan, although not me, still has my traits. One of
these is his want to fight his sleep. As parents we don’t
realize that a lot of the answers to the questions we
have about our children can simply be answered
by looking within ourselves.

My father for the longest time had concerns with me
taking action without consultation and always wanting to
move forward with something when I had my mind set.
For example, when I wanted to get married, his concern
was that I was still young. He knew I was going to
move forward either way, and he was frustrated as
to why I wouldn’t listen to him. My mother told him,
“Do you remember when we were going to get married?
You were younger than Ramin and your uncles said the
same thing to you, but you still went with what you had
set your mind to.”

There may be times when we can’t answer the questions
about our children by looking within ourselves, but there
are a lot of times when we just have to realize that the
baby does not fall far from the parent.
