Why Inner Peace Be Upon You?

Back when I initially started thinking about writing

inspirational, uplifting, and motivational newsletters, I realized

I had to come up with a name for the newsletters.

Having a Muslim background and being a Muslim, I knew

the newsletters would center around my faith and belief in

God. I first came up with the title “Inspirations from the Cave

of Hira.” This being the location of the first relevation given

to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from God through

Angel Gabriel.

However, I realized that these newsletters would be helpful to all

people, not only people who would be associated with the

religion of Islam. So I tried to look for a more universal name so

as not to alienate other people who believed in God through another

religion or those people who were unsure about their own

beliefs in God.

I let this question sink into my sub-conscience and let God work

His magic to help me come up with a name.

One day it hit me! Boom! Right in my face was something I constantly

said to people.

The Muslim greeting is “As-Salāmu `Alaykum” (السلام عليكم)

which means “Peace Be Upon You.” This greeting is meant to

convey universal peace and harmony among all people.

“What a great idea!” I thought. However, I knew that it may

come off with some people who were not familiar with the greeting, and

I wanted to do my part to make sure the messages in my newsletters

reached everyone in search of it.

So again I thought to myself.

I realized when we are looking for peace, we want some semblance

of inner peace within ourselves. A lot of things can happen in

our environment where it will be chaotic and filled with turmoil. We

can overcome even the most trying of times if we had some type of

inner peace.

So again, it hit me! Boom!

I decided I wanted something faith-based, but I wanted to reach

all people who believed in God, in peace, and wanted to

self-improve. These are all universal concepts people strive

to achieve in understanding and obtaining.

From there the rest was history.
