Universal peace.

I was at an event at the mosque one weekend with a well-known
scholar Hamza Yusuf and his teacher. The topic for the event was
centered around peace, understanding, and patience.
As I was sitting there listening to the scholars speak, my ears perked
up at the mention of universal peace. The scholars mentioned that when
you wish for peace for others, you are establishing peace for yourself.
This tolerance for others especially those whose opinions differ from
your own is really important.
This could be your spouse. Your sibling. Your parents.
A friend. A coworker. Or a stranger.
Especially strangers.
As humans with egos we want to be right. In always trying to be right,
we sometimes do wrong to others and our environment. From this outer
turmoil our inner peace starts to chip until it shatters.
Our inner peace needs to start from a starting point of tolerance for
others.
“O mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made
you into nations and tribes that you may know and honor each other
(not that you should despise one another). Indeed the most honorable
of you in the sight of God is the most righteous.”
Surah Al Hujurat, Verse 13 - Qur’an
