What is the real purpose?

When I started Inner Peace Be Upon You in 2010, I knew

I wanted it to be a newsletter that helped someone change

their perspective for the better or simply help them get through their

day. My initial subscribers were close friends and family

who were gracious enough to allow me the opportunity

to start this.

I slowly started to look beyond family and friends. I knew

the messages I was trying to convey in Inner Peace Be Upon You

was universal and could make a difference in anyone’s life.

As I started to do the marketing for Inner Peace Be Upon You,

I became more and more concerned with the number of

viewers and subscribers. It started to become more of a

numbers game than anything else. Soon enough I was

consumed with finding ways to get more and more

subscribers and viewers.

Granted Inner Peace Be Upon You was popular because

it was something that everyone could relate to. It came at a

moment when by the grace of God someone needed it that day

even though I had written the newsletter at least a month in advance.

But when I started to become numbers driven, I realized that my

efforts in gaining more subscribers and viewers started to disappoint.

I just wasn’t sure what was going on.

Did people all of a sudden stop reading?

Was it no longer helpful?

Were my topics redundant?

Am I no longer successful in my endeavor?

It became very personal. I started to ask these questions

and many others as I could not find the answer.

Yet, the answer was right there in my face.

My purpose changed.

I was more concerned with the numbers than I was with

the purpose of Inner Peace Be Upon You. The purpose of

Inner Peace Be Upon You is to help others: most times

in life we just need to change our perspective in the way we

view things because the best way to gain

external happiness is through internal peacefulness.

It was never about the numbers.

In fact, everyone who I spoke to initially about Inner Peace Be Upon You,

I told them that so long as one, just ONE, person was able to

benefit from the newsletter for that day, then I had fulfilled

my purpose.

In today’s environment with facebook, twitter, instagram, and many

other social media venues, we are often consumed with how many

followers we are able to get that we often forget the real purpose

of what we are hoping to accomplish.

In those moments when we forget, we have to ask ourselves:

What is the real purpose?
